Here's an article that had me hopping-mad infuriated yesterday, from the Wall St Journal. A German guy (figures) named Josef Joffe mocked Obama’s touchy feely approach here. The quote that has me livid is his concluding paragraph:
Conflict between states is made from sterner stuff than bad manners or bad vibes, past grievances or imaginary fears. International politics is neither psychiatry nor a set of "see me, feel me" encounter sessions. It is about power and position, about preventing injury and protecting interests. Love and friendship move people, not nations.
He speaks of how decency applied at the level of individuals can’t work at the level of states. But his derisive language reveals he actually ridicules a touchy feely approach at all levels, and that’s where he’s being dishonest.
